A fiery crash claimed three lives on a recent Thursday evening in a city not far from Honolulu. This was one of many fatal high-speed auto accidents that have claimed the lives of motorists in Hawaii this year. Authorities said these deaths bring the fatality rate for traffic accidents on Oahu Island to 25 so far this year — compared to 28 by this time last year.
According to a police report, the accident involved only one vehicle that was apparently speeding west along Farrington Highway. That area has a speed limit of 35 mph. Due to unknown circumstances, the car allegedly struck the curb and flipped over before crashing into a pillar before catching fire. The fiery blaze incinerated the vehicle and its occupants before rescuers could extinguish the flames.
Emergency responders determined that there were three occupants in the car. However, it was impossible to determine the genders of the badly burned bodies. The deaths of all three were pronounced at the accident scene.
