Driver dies after crashing off highway overpass near Honolulu airport

HONOLULU, HI – Police said a driver was killed when her car crashed near the airport in Honolulu late Wednesday night.

KITV reports the accident happened at the H-1 Freeway overpass at about 11:30 p.m.  A 57-year-old woman was driving on the eastbound freeway when her car struck a concrete guardrail and fell off the overpass.

The car found overturned on the street below near the airport ramp to departures.  The driver was found dead at the scene.

The Honolulu Police Department believes the woman was driving at a high rate of speed prior to the accident.  Police are continuing their investigation.
