Car hits pole on Kamehameha Highway, injuring man and causing power outage

KAHUKU, HI – A car accident near Kawela Bay on Tuesday morning left a driver injured and caused a power outage, authorities said.

According to a report by KITV, a car crashed into a power pole in the 57-400 block of Kamehameha Highway near Kawela Bay Beach Park at about 9:10 a.m.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said a 59-year-old man was hospitalized in stable condition after suffering a leg injury in the wreck.  The accident knocked out power to about 930 area customers, Hawaii Electric said.

Kamehameha Highway was shut down in both directions through the area while crews responded to the scene.
