HONOLULU, HI – A driver left the scene after striking a pedestrian in Honolulu on Wednesday night, according to police.
Hawaii News Now reports the victim was a 27-year-old woman who was hit on Kamehameha Highway in the Haleiwa area. Honolulu police said she was trying to cross the street in an unmarked crosswalk shortly before 7:40 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle going north.
The woman was hospitalized in critical condition before being upgraded to serious condition later. Investigators learned that the driver involved stopped briefly at the scene but then drove off without rendering aid or providing any information. The driver is now being sought by police, who describe the vehicle as a dark-colored four-door sedan.
Kamehameha Highway was closed in both directions at Maika Place for the accident investigation.
