KAPOLEI, HI – A bicyclist was critically injured in a collision with a vehicle on Fort Barrette Road in Kapolei, reports KITV.
Investigators said the victim was a 48-year-old woman who was trying to cross roadway from the southbound shoulder to the northbound side on Monday afternoon at about 3:45 p.m. She entered the path of a vehicle driven by a 55-year-old woman driving south, and was struck by the vehicle.
The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the roadway. She was rushed to an area hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured and stayed at the scene. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident, and so far, they do not believe that speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
