MAILI, HI – A car crash in Maili last week sent the driver and one of her passengers to the hospital, KITV reported.
Honolulu police were dispatched to the scene Wednesday morning in the vicinity of Paakea Road and Mailiilii Road.
Investigators learned that a 35-year-old woman was driving an SUV west on Paakea Road at about 7:46 a.m. when she lost control of the vehicle while trying to make a left turn onto Mailiilii Road. The SUV crashed into a wooden pole in the shoulder of the roadway.
The driver and a juvenile passenger were transported by paramedics to an area hospital in critical condition but both were later upgraded to serious condition. Two other passengers in the SUV, a 41-year-old man and a juvenile, were not injured. None of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
The Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section is investigating the accident and said that neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors.
