MAUI, HI – A driver involved in a crash in Maui County earlier this month has died of her injuries, the Maui Police Department reported.
The victim, identified as 55-year-old Teresa Campisi of Haiku, was pronounced dead Sunday at Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu.
The accident happened May 10 on Honoapiilani Highway (Route 30) near the intersection of North Kihei Road at about 9:45 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicated that Campisi was driving a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta southbound approaching the intersection when the Jetta drifted left across the grass median into oncoming traffic, sideswiping a 2016 Dodge van before colliding head-on with a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas.
Campisi was critically injured and was initially taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center before being transferred.
The driver of the Atlas, a 32-year-old Wailuku man, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition. The driver of the Dodge a 42-year-old Lahaina man, was not hurt.
Investigators said Campisi was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, but the other two drivers were wearing theirs.
It was not yet clear whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the fatal wreck.
