HONOLULU, HI – Honolulu police are investigating a deadly accident that occurred on the H-1 Freeway westbound on Saturday evening, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
The single-vehicle wreck took place shortly before 6 p.m. in the area of North School Street and Aala Street. Police stated that a driver heading west drifted to the left and crossed all lanes of traffic, then crashed into the concrete barrier median.
The driver, a 28-year-old woman, died at the scene. It was reported that she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The freeway was shut down for about four hours while the scene was being cleared, causing traffic backups in the area.
Investigators said speed did not appear to have been a contributing factor in the incident, but have yet to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
