KANEOHE, HI – A hit-and-run accident on Kamehameha Highway in Kaneohe on Thursday afternoon claimed the life of a pedestrian, reports KITV.

The incident took place on Kamehameha Highway north between the Pali Highway and the H3 Freeway.

Officials said a 32-year-old woman was walking partially on the roadway at about 2:05 a.m. when she was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by a 75-year-old man.  As she was laying in the road, the woman was hit by a second vehicle, possibly a commercial dump truck, which left the scene.

The first driver stopped and tried to help the victim while Honolulu police, firefighters and EMS crews responded to the crash.  The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kamehameha Highway, Kaneohe-bound, was closed in the area for several hours for the accident investigation.
