KAUAI, HI – Kauai police and firefighters responded to the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident in Lihue early Thursday morning, reports the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
Investigators said the victim was a woman who was walking in the northbound lane of Kapule Highway near mile marker 2.5 at about 4:50 a.m. She was struck there by a Ford E-350 box truck. The woman, who has not yet been publicly identified, was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the box truck, reportedly a 34-year-old Kapaa woman, was not injured.
Kapule Highway was shut down between Ahukini Road and Kuhio Highway for about two hours for the crash investigation.
