HONOLULU, HI – Honolulu police were dispatched to a collision in the McCully area last week that claimed the life of a pedestrian.
According to a police news release, the fatal crash took place Aug. 21 in the vicinity of Kemole Lane and Young Street at about 1:23 p.m. It was reported to the department’s Traffic Division that a driver going north on Kemole Lane disregarded a stop sign and initiated a left turn onto Young Street. At that point the vehicle struck a 72-year-old woman who was walking within the roadway eastbound on Young Street.
The pedestrian, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 67-year-old man, was not injured and stayed at the scene.
Police are continuing to investigate the accident. At this time it is not believed that speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
