KALIHI, HI – A woman was seriously injured in a pedestrian collision involving a hit-and-run driver in the Kalihi area early Saturday morning.
The Honolulu Police Department reported that the incident occurred on Nimitz Highway near the intersection of Sand Island Access Road at about 3:50 a.m.
A preliminary investigation indicated that an unidentified motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Nimitz Highway at a high rate of speed when the motorcycle struck a 71-year-old female pedestrian who was walking in a marked crosswalk.
The motorcyclist continued traveling westbound on Nimitz Highway without stopping to render aid or provide information.
The pedestrian was taken via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor in the collision, but it was not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
Anyone with further information on the crash was asked to contact Honolulu police.
