HONOLULU, HI – Honolulu police said a woman died following a pedestrian collision last week, according to Hawaii News Now.
The accident happened early on the morning of Jan. 8, when the woman was walking across Nimitz Highway in a marked crosswalk at about 4:45 a.m. Authorities said she was struck by an eastbound vehicle at the intersection with Valkenburgh Street.
The pedestrian, age 60, died of her injuries at an area hospital, the medical examiner said on Sunday.
The driver of the vehicle involved, a 55-year-old woman, was not injured and stayed at the scene. The eastbound lanes of Nimitz Highway were closed for the crash response and investigation.
Police believe speed may have been a contributing factor in the incident.
