KANEOHE, HI – A 52-year-old woman was killed in a moped collision in the Kaneohe area on Monday morning, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
Investigators learned that the woman was riding a moped eastbound on Kaneohe Bay Drive at about 6:50 a.m. when she was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by a 79-year-old man. The moped rider was ejected onto the asphalt roadway in the right shoulder. She was struck there by a vehicle driven by a 31-year-old man, who had been trying to pass the first vehicle.
The woman, whose name was not immediately released, died at the scene. She was wearing a helmet at the time of the fatal crash, police said.
The drivers of the two vehicles were not injured and stayed at the scene.
At this time, speed, drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been contributing factors in the collision.
