MAKIKI, HI – A driver was critically injured in a wreck in the Makiki area on Sunday evening, police said.
According to a news release from the Honolulu Police Department, a 39-year-old woman was traveling northbound on Round Top Drive when the crash happened at about 6 p.m.
For unknown reasons, the woman drove off of the roadway and the unimproved shoulder, and the vehicle struck a tree. The driver was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
Police said she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. No other vehicles were involved.
Investigators do not believe speed was a contributing factor in the incident, but it has yet to be determined whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
