WAIANAE, HI – Police report that a young woman has died of injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash in the Waianae area last week.
In an update on the case, the Honolulu Police Department said it was notified Aug. 19 by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 20-year-old victim had passed away.
The fatal accident occurred Aug. 17 on Farrington Highway east of Ala Akau Street at about 3:03 p.m. An initial investigation determined that the woman was riding a motorcycle westbound when she lost control and struck the raised concrete curb.
The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike onto the roadway and was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition. Investigators believe speed was a contributing factor in the collision.
This is the 53rd traffic fatality on Oahu this year, more than twice the 26 that had taken place at the same time in 2024.
