VOLCANO, HI – An investigation is underway into a collision that killed a pedestrian in Volcano last Thursday afternoon.
According to the Hawaii Police Department, the incident happened on Highway 11 at the Alii Koa Street intersection.
Officers responding to the scene learned that the driver of a 2012 Chevy pickup truck was headed north on the highway shortly before 12:25 p.m. and struck a pedestrian at the Alii Koa Street intersection. The 44-year-old victim, a Volcano man, was pronounced dead after being transported to Hilo Medical Center. The pickup truck driver, a 52-year-old man, was not injured.
Multiple witnesses confirmed the pedestrian was standing by the stop sign prior to running into the road in front of the pickup truck.
