HONOLULU, HI – The driver who died in a wrong-way crash in the Makiki area early Saturday morning has now been identified, reports Hawaii News Now.
The victim was 25-year-old Kylee Chun of Oahu, according to the Honolulu Medical Examiner.
The wreck occurred along the H-1 West Freeway, west of the Punahou Street overpass at about 3:45 a.m. Honolulu police investigators said Chun was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of the freeway.
Her vehicle collided with a semi-truck driven by a 77-year-old man who was heading west in the #2 lane. Bystanders arrived at the scene to help extricate Chun from her car.
Chun, a mother of two boys ages 5 and 3, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. Police said she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the fatal accident. The other driver was transported in good condition.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported that Chun had recently moved to Oahu from California with her children and was heading home from her birthday party when the crash occurred.
