MAKIKI, HI – Authorities released the identity of a man struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Makiki earlier this month.
Hawaii News Now reports the victim was 30-year-old Eddie Cruz Ochoa. The incident took place April 10 on Kewalo Street near Wilder Avenue.
Police said Ochoa was crossing the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk at about 11:35 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle. At the time, he was returning to his home with his girlfriend.
Ochoa was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. The driver who hit him kept going on Kewalo Street without stopping to help or provide information, and is still being sought.
Family, friends and neighbors gathered last week at the crash site to pay tribute to Ochoa and ask that the driver who was responsible for his death come forward. They also called for additional safety measures in that area to protect pedestrians.
