HONOLULU, HI – Authorities released an update in a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred in Kaneohe early Sunday morning.
According to a KITV report, the Honolulu Medical Examiner has identified the man killed in the collision as 33-year-old Christopher Greenberg.
The crash took place at about 1:20 a.m. on Kahekili Highway near Haiku Road.
Investigators learned that Greenberg was walking north on Kahekili Highway when he was struck by an unknown motorist who also was going northbound. The driver fled the scene without stopping to help or provide information.
Greenberg was lying in the roadway when a driver pulled over on Kahekii Highway to assist him. Another driver tried to avoid a collision with the stopped vehicle and was struck from behind by another vehicle, which then ended up hitting Greenberg, who died at the scene.
One passenger in one of the vehicles, age 32, was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Three other people were treated at the scene.
Kahekili Highway was shut down in both directions for over five hours for the accident response and investigation.
