KALIHI, HI – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in the Kalihi area on Monday morning, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
The police department’s Traffic Division learned that a woman was driving eastbound in the zipper lane on the H1 Freeway and merged onto Nimitz Highway at about 8:07 a.m. At that point, she struck a 32-year-old man who was crossing Nimitz Highway and was not in a marked crosswalk.
The pedestrian was critically injured and was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old woman, and her 54-year-old female passenger were not injured and stayed at the scene.
Police are continuing to investigate the fatal accident, and said that at this time it does not appear that speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident.
