KANEOHE, HI – Police are investigating a pedestrian collision in Kaneohe that claimed the life of a 71-year-old woman, according to a KITV report.

The victim was walking on Kahekili Highway near Haiku Road on Tuesday night when the incident occurred at about 6:11 p.m.  According to investigators, she was walking outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle headed north on Kahekili Highway.

The pedestrian, identified, as Angela Shiroma, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver involved, a 69-year-old woman, was not injured and stayed at the scene.

At this point police do not believe that speed, drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident, which shut down Kahekili Highway in both directions for several hours from Haiku to Hui Iwa Street.
