Vehicle collision in Waimanalo leaves moped rider seriously injured

WAIMANALO, HI – Paramedics were dispatched to a collision in Waimanalo on Wednesday evening that left a moped rider seriously injured, according to KITV.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said the victim was a 56-year-old man who was riding his moped on Kalanianaole Highway when the crash occurred.  The man lost control of the moped at Mekia Street, and collided with another vehicle.

The moped rider, who suffered multiple injuries, was treated at the scene by EMS and then taken to an area hospital where he was listed in serious condition.  No other injuries were reported.

There was no immediate word on whether the rider was wearing a helmet when the crash occurred.
