Truck accident causes fuel spill, traffic delays on H-1 Freeway in Honolulu

HONOLULU, HI – Emergency crews responded to the scene of a truck accident that snarled traffic in Honolulu on Tuesday morning, according to Hawaii News Now.

A garbage truck overturned on the H1 Freeway near the merge with the H2 at about 10:19 a.m.   The truck then began leaking diesel fuel onto the roadway.

Four westbound lanes of the freeway were closed to traffic while crews moved the truck and cleaned up the fuel, with only the far-right lane getting by.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area until the scene could be cleared, and traffic was diverted to the northbound H2 Freeway.  Major backups were reported due to the crash.

It took nearly five hours for all lanes to be reopened to traffic.  No injuries were reported in the incident.
