KAUAI, HI – A multi-vehicle accident in Kauai on Monday morning left a teenager critically injured, Hawaii News Now reports.
Police and paramedics responded to the crash site in the area of Kaumualii Highway and Omao Road at about 7 a.m.
A preliminary investigation found that the driver of a Toyota sedan was trying to make a left turn onto Kaumualii Highway when a vehicle in the outer eastbound lane stopped to let the Toyota complete its turn. A 1995 Toyota truck going east in the inner lane collided with the front of the sedan, causing the truck driver to lost control. That vehicle then entered the westbound lane and was hit by a 2020 Toyota truck.
The teenager who was driving the 1995 Toyota was hospitalized at Queens Medical Center in critical condition.
No other injuries were reported in the incident, which shut down Kaumualii Highway for about 90 minutes for the accident investigation.
