KIHEI, HI – A pedestrian was critically injured when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Maui last Wednesday night, reports KITV.

Maui police said the victim was walking in the shoulder area of South Kihei Road near Namahu’u Place in Kihei shortly after 8 p.m. and was hit by a sedan.

The pedestrian, a 34-year-old woman, was listed in critical condition after being taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center.

The driver involved was reported to have left the scene heading north at a high rate of speed.  A witness attempted to follow the car to get the license plate number but lost sight of it.

Police are now searching for the vehicle, which they describe as a newer model, dark colored sedan.

Anyone with further information regarding the hit-and-run was asked to contact the Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division.
