KALIHI, HI – Paramedics came to the aid of a scooter rider badly injured in a crash in Kalihi on Saturday night, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

A 51-year-old man was riding an electric scooter east on North King Street when the accident happened at about 7:48 p.m.  A preliminary investigation by Honolulu police indicated that the man lost control of the scooter for unknown reasons, crashed into a roadway stanchion, and was ejected onto the raised center median.

The man was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition by Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.  Police said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Investigators do not believe speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident.
