HONOLULU, HI – A woman riding a motorized mobility scooter was hit by two vehicles in Honolulu on Friday night, police said.
A report by Hawaii News Now states that the woman was riding the scooter down Farrington Highway in Nanakuli at about 6:45 p.m. when the incident occurred near the intersection with Princess Kahanu Avenue.
As she started to cross the highway, the scooter rider was struck by a vehicle being driven at high speed, then was struck again by another vehicle. The victim, a 75-year-old woman, was thrown to the pavement. She suffered critical injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
The first driver fled the scene while the second driver remained, according to Honolulu police investigators, who added that speed appeared to have been a contributing factor in the incident. It was reported that the woman was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
