Police searching for driver who struck bicycle rider on North Nimitz Highway

HONOLULU, HI – A man riding a bicycle was struck and injured by a hit-and-run driver in Kalihi on Tuesday night, according to Honolulu police.

Hawaii News Now reports the 40-year-old victim was riding his bicycle in the right lane on North Nimitz Highway shortly before 11 p.m. when he was hit by a westbound Ford 4-door sedan.  The bicyclist was taken to an area hospital and was listed in serious condition.

Police said the driver of the Ford did not stop to help or provide information after the collision.  Honolulu police are now searching for the driver and vehicle involved.

It has yet to be determined whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident as the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division continues its investigation.
