KAPOLEI, HI – Police are investigating an accident in Kapolei Monday morning that left a pedestrian critically injured, KITV reports.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said the victim was trying to walk across Kapolei Parkway near Manawai Street when he was hit by a vehicle shortly after 4 a.m.  The pedestrian, a 62-year-old man, was rushed to an area hospital and was listed in critical condition.

The 30-year-old man driving the vehicle that hit him was not injured and remained at the scene.  The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk at the time he was struck, police said.

The investigation has indicated that speed, drugs and alcohol were not apparently contributing factors in the incident.
