KAHULUI, HI – New details were released by the Maui Police Department regarding a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred early Saturday morning.
According to the Maui News, police have identified the victim of the crash in Kahului as 25-year-old Josue Carrillo of Kihei.
The police investigation indicated that Carrillo was driving a Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycle shortly after midnight when he failed to navigate a bend in the roadway. The motorcycle crossed into an oncoming lane near Pakaula Street and then struck a curb, a tree, and a sign on the shoulder of the road.
Carrillo and his passenger, an 18-year-old woman from Kahului, were thrown from the bike onto the roadway. Carrillo was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was listed in stable condition after being transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center. Both were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the crash.
