HAMAKUA, HI – New details were released regarding a fatal accident that occurred last month in Hamakua.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported that the man killed in the Dec. 15th incident was identified by Hawaii Island police as 84-year-old Colin Perry of Waimea.

The incident occurred in the area of Mamane Street and Mamalahoa Highway at about 12:42 p.m.  An investigation determined that Perry was driving his Toyota Tacoma truck when he reportedly struck the rear of a parked Honda Pilot along a gravel road.

When Perry got out of his truck it started moving, and he was pinned between the driver’s side of his truck and the back of the Honda Pilot.  He was able to free himself and was transported to North Hawaii Community Hospital in critical condition.

He was later flown to Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu and died there on Dec. 20.
