KAUAI, HI – Police are investigating a fatal rear-end collision that occurred on Kauai Sunday afternoon.
According to Hawaii News Now, the incident happened on Kaumuali’i Highway near mile-marker 6 at about 2:45 p.m. An investigation indicated that the driver of an eastbound Toyota Tacoma crashed into the back of a Nissan Sentra. The Tacoma driver then lost control of the vehicle, which went off the road and rolled into a ditch.
The driver of the Tacoma, identified as 66-year-old Ronald Britton of Ōma’o, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, a 62-year-old Washington man, and his passenger were not injured.
Investigators do not believe that speed or alcohol were contributing factors in the wreck. Kaumuali’i Highway was shut down in both directions while police were on the scene investigating.
