HONOLULU, HI – Police said a pedestrian was struck and killed in the Makiki area last week by a driver who left the scene.
According to a release from the Honolulu Police Department, the collision happened April 9 at about 11:35 p.m. Investigators with the police department’s Traffic Division learned that a 30-year-old man was crossing the roadway on Kewalo Street near Wilder Avenue, outside of a marked crosswalk. He was struck by an unknown vehicle heading northbound.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital by Emergency Medical Services. Police said the driver of the vehicle kept going north on Kewalo Street without stopping to help or provide any information.
It was not immediately known whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident.
