HONOLULU, HI – A pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a transit bus in the Waikiki area on Friday afternoon, police said.
A news release from the Honolulu Police Department states that the collision occurred near the intersection of Kuhio Avenue and Royal Hawaiian Avenue at about 4 p.m.
An initial investigation determined that a 57-year-old man was walking east on the south sidewalk of Kuhio Avenue when he tripped and fell into the roadway. The pedestrian was then hit by a transit bus going eastbound on Kuhio Avenue.
The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition. The bus driver, a 57-year-old man, was not injured and stayed at the scene.
At this time, police do not believe that speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
