KAUAI, HI – An accident in Kauai on Saturday morning left a pedestrian dead, according to a report by Kauai Now.
It happened as the man was walking on the westbound shoulder of Po‘ipū Road near Kaihuna Shopping Center at about 8:50 a.m. Police said the driver of a 2004 Toyota multi-purpose vehicle veered off the roadway and struck the pedestrian.
The victim, a 55-year-old Kalaheo man, died after being taken to the Wilcox Memorial Hospital. The two occupants of the Toyota were not injured.
The Kauaʽi Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section responded to the scene and shut down the roadway in both directions for the investigation, which is ongoing.
It is not believed that speed or impairment were contributing factors in the incident.
