KALIHI, HI – Police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck in the Kalahi area by two vehicles that both left the scene.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, the incident occurred shortly after midnight on Friday, Aug. 28 on Nimitz Highway. It was reported to the police department’s Traffic Division that the pedestrian was lying in the roadway of the eastbound lanes when he was struck by an unidentified motorist heading east. He was then hit by another eastbound vehicle driven by an unidentified motorist.
The victim, a 50-year-old man, was transported to an area hospital in serious condition but his condition was later downgraded to critical. Police say both of the drivers who struck him kept going east on Nimitz Highway without stopped to render aid or provide information.
Anyone with further information was asked to contact the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division. It was not immediately known whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.
