MAILI, HI – A pedestrian collision in the Maili area early Saturday morning left a young woman critically injured, police said.
The incident occurred on Farrington Highway at the intersection of Kaukamana Street, according to a Honolulu Police Department news release.
A 21-year-old woman was in the crosswalk shortly after midnight with the Do Not Walk sign illuminated when she was struck by a vehicle heading east on Farrington Highway. Emergency Medical Services rushed the pedestrian to an area hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle and his passenger, both 17-year-old males, were not injured in the crash and stayed at the scene.
Police said speed does not appear to have been a contributing factor, but it was not yet clear whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
