HONOLULU, HI – Police are investigating a recent hit-and-run incident in Honolulu that left a pedestrian critically injured.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, the vehicle vs. pedestrian collision occurred June 8 on South King Street in the Moiliili area at about 3 a.m. Investigators said a male pedestrian was trying to cross the street in a marked crosswalk with the pedestrian signal when he was struck by a motorist traveling eastbound on South King Street.
After the initial crash, the driver lost control and collided with a parked and unoccupied vehicle, pushing that vehicle into another parked and unoccupied vehicle. The motorist fled the scene and was last seen heading east on South King Street. A short time later police found the motorist’s vehicle abandoned at the intersection of Waialae Avenue and Palolo Avenue. The motorist had yet to be identified.
The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital and was listed in critical condition. The investigation indicated that speed was likely a contributing factor in the accident, but it was not clear whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
