HONOLULU, HI – Honolulu police are investigating an accident Monday evening that left an elderly pedestrian critically injured.
KITV reports the incident occurred on Old Waialae Avenue near the onramp to the westbound H1 Freeway.
Police said the 81-year-old pedestrian was jay-walking across the street at about 6 p.m. when he was struck by a car. The victim was rushed to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
The 48-year-old driver of the car remained at the scene. He and his 46-year-old passenger were not hurt in the incident.
It did not appear that speed, drugs or alcohol on the part of the driver were contributing factors, according to investigators. Police were still trying to determine whether those were factors on the part of the pedestrian.
