Pedestrian, 70, struck and killed by vehicle in Kalihi area

KALIHI, HI – A man was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking in the Kalihi area Saturday night, according to Honolulu police.

Hawaii News New reports the accident occurred on Nimitz Highway at about 11:45 p.m.  An investigation determined that the 70-year-old pedestrian was walking on the highway when he was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by a 59-year-old man.

The victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Honolulu police said the pedestrian was walking in the crosswalk against the “Don’t Walk” sign at the time.

An investigation is continuing into the cause of the accident.
