HONOLULU, HI – The Honolulu Police Department reported that a man struck by a vehicle last month has died of his injuries.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office informed the police department on Wednesday that the 70-year-old victim of the Sept. 30 pedestrian accident had passed away.

The man was struck by a vehicle on the Liliha Street on-ramp to the eastbound H-1 Freeway at about 9:10 p.m.  According to a preliminary investigation, the pedestrian was crossing against the “Do Not Walk” signal when the crash occurred.

Police said a man driving south on Liliha Street had a green left-turn arrow, turned onto the on-ramp, and hit the pedestrian, who was listed in critical condition after being taken to an area hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, a 61-year-old man, was not injured and stayed at the scene.

Investigators initially said speed, drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been contributing factors in the incident, which remains under investigation.

It was the 67th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 35 at the same time in 2024.
