KAPAA, HI – A suspect is under arrest in connection with a hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a pedestrian, Kaua’i police said.
According to KHON, 33-year-old Brandon Vitovitz was arrested on multiple charges last Thursday morning.
The accident happened March 26 on Kūhiō Highway near Kukui Street in Kapa‘a at about 9:45 p.m. Investigators said Vitovitz was driving a lifted Toyota Tacoma when he made a left onto Kukui Street and struck a pedestrian crossing the street in a marked pedestrian crosswalk.
The victim, 64-year-old David Evans of Kapa’a, was pronounced dead after being taken to Wilcox Medical Center. Vitovitz allegedly fled the scene of the crash.
He has been charged with negligent homicide, accidents involving death, inattention to driving, and driving without a license. Bail was set at $250,000.
