HONOLULU, HI – A car and a scooter were involved in a fatal collision in Kalihi Tuesday afternoon, reports the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
The vehicles collided in the vicinity of Kalihi Street and Palanehe Place. According to police, a scooter rider was going at high speed southbound on Kalihi Street shortly after 4 p.m. when he broadsided a northbound vehicle making a turn into a residential driveway.
The scooter rider, a 31-year-old man, was thrown onto the roadway and was later pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital. Police said he was not wearing a helmet at the time the crash occurred.
Investigators said speed was a contributing factor in the wreck. No other injuries were reported.
