WAIANAE, HI – An accident in Waianae on Friday night sent a motorcyclist to the hospital with severe injuries, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports.

The crash occurred on Farrington Highway near Alapaki Street at about 4:10 p.m. Police said the motorcycle rider was heading west when he struck a speed bump, lost control of the bike, and was ejected onto the highway.

The rider, a 46-year-old man, was transported by Honolulu Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.  Police said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

At this point, investigators do not believe that speeding was a contributing factor.

Motorcycle accidents are often severe because they are unenclosed vehicles that expose riders to more serious injuries.
