News: Man, 76, dies after collision with vehicle in Kauaʻi parking lot

KAUAʻI, HI – A pedestrian was killed in a collision with a vehicle in a parking lot Friday evening, according to the Kauaʻi Police Department.

A report by KHON states that the accident happened in the Hōkūlei Village parking lot in Līhu‘e at about 6 p.m.  An investigation found that a 76-year-old man was walking through the lot and tripped.  He fell into the path of a moving Toyota Tacoma and was hit by the vehicle, which was driven by a 27-year-old man from Hanapēpē.

The victim, who was visiting from Kansas, was pronounced dead after being rushed to Wilcox Medical Center.  His name was not immediately released.  The Kauaʻi Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is conducting an investigation into the accident.
