KURTISTOWN, HI – A woman struck by a vehicle in Kurtistown last week has died of her injuries, according to a Hawaii Island police news release.

The victim was identified as 21-year-old Jahnya Serquina-Octubre, of Mountain View.  The accident occurred Jan. 22 shortly before 8 p.m. on Highway 11 in the area of the 10 mile marker.

Serquina-Octubre was reported to have been on the roadway when she was struck by a 2016 Honda CRV multi-purpose vehicle going north on Highway 11 toward Hilo.   Police disclosed that she passed away after being taken to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center.

The Honda driver, a 74-year-old man from Mountain View, was not injured in the incident.

Police do not believe speed or impairment were contributing factors, and are classifying the investigation as a negligent homicide.
