HONOLULU, HI – A motorist was critically injured in a rear-end collision in Honolulu last week, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
Police responded to the accident scene on Tuesday, Oct. 21 on the H-1 West Freeway. Investigators learned that a 65-year-old driver was heading west at about 1:40 p.m. when he stopped for an unrelated vehicle collision and was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old male.
The 65-year-old was taken via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition. His condition deteriorated and he was later listed in critical condition.
The 17-year-old was not injured and stayed at the scene.
Police say speed does not appear to have been a contributing factor in the crash but they have yet to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
