MAUI, HI – A collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck in Maui County Friday afternoon left an elderly woman dead, reports KITV.
The 79-year-old woman was driving a 2018 Harley-Davidson Tri-glide motorcycle south on Honoapiilani Highway when the incident took place near Kapoli Street at about 3:15 p.m.
An initial investigation determined that the motorcycle rider failed to slow down for stopped traffic and crashed into the rear of one of the vehicles that was stopped, a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
The motorcyclist was ejected from her bike and pronounced dead at the scene. The victim, who was wearing her helmet at the time of the crash, was a Lahaina resident.
The pickup driver, a 37-year-old Lahaina woman, and two of the three passengers suffered minor injuries.
Investigators are trying to determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the wreck.
