LIHUE, HI – A motorcycle rider was seriously injured Monday morning in a crash with a vehicle in Lihue, according to Hawaii News Now.
The collision happened just before 6 a.m. in the area of Kuhio Highway and Kuamoo Road. Police said the driver of a 2003 Jeep SUV was going north on Kuhio Highway and was attempting to make a left turn onto Kuamoo Road. The Jeep struck the side of an electric motorcycle traveling south on Kuhio Highway.
The motorcyclist, a 42-year-old man from Kapaa, was ejected from the bike and taken to Wilcox Medical Center in serious condition before being transferred to Queen’s Medical Center. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, police said.
The driver of the Jeep, a 38-year-old Hanapepe man, was not injured.
Kuhio Highway was shut down in both direction near the scene for about two hours while the Kauai Police Department’s Traffic Safety section conducted its investigation.
